Age: 44 years
Position: Team Leader for Families & Disabilities Services
Organisation: Centacare Townsville
Pam was working part time at Centacare as both a Relationship Counselor and Disability Advisor when the position of Team Leader became available.
Pam was ready to return to a management role and due to her part time positions within the organization was able to gain some insight into the Families & Disabilities Services strengths and challenges. Pam believed that she could provide a positive contribution and applied for the role.
Pam has now been working with Centacare for four years and is very happy in her position. Pam has influence and input on the policy and strategic direction of the organization and also has the opportunity to guide, educate and challenge her staff.
Pam thrives on being constantly stimulated and challenged both personally and professionally. Pam sees herself pursuing a position in staff training or adult education in the future.
Pam lives with significant physical disabilities, requiring the daily use of a power wheelchair. Pam is also legally blind, with just 5% vision remaining in one eye.
Despite these challenges, Pam enjoys a good life and is employed full time. Pam has developed a range of strategies to manage daily challenges including the use of a computer screen reader called JAWS.
Centacare is a family friendly and disability friendly work place.
