The Independent Social Security Handbook provides information about all major types of social security payments and outlines people's legal and appeal rights.
It was produced by the Welfare Rights Centre to help community and welfare workers gain a working knowledge of Australia's social security system and advise clients about social security payments and procedures.
The Department of Communities has purchased a subscription to the handbook’s online version. Community organisations can register to use the handbook by following the steps below.
Registering for The Independent Social Security Handbook Online:
- Go to the Register or Log-in page.
- Choose the 'Register' button.
- Enter your name and other contact details as requested. Then choose 'Create User'.
- An email will be sent to you to confirm the details you have provided.
- Click on the link in the email to return to the network's website, as this validates your account.
Once you have an account, return to the Register or Log-in page and use your username and password to access the handbook.
